DATA 114 Data, Networks & Intelligent Systems

3 unit(s)
Data, Networks & Intelligent Systems provides an integrated study of how modern computing systems store, manage, transmit, secure, and analyze data. Students examine database architecture, relational modeling, normalization, storage structures, indexing, query optimization, transactions, concurrency, recovery, distributed databases, NoSQL systems, and database security alongside network models, data transmission, switching, addressing, routing, transport protocols, application protocols, security, wireless communication, and emerging networking technologies. The course also introduces probability and statistical methods for computational analysis, including descriptive statistics, probability, estimation, hypothesis testing, regression, ANOVA, and Monte Carlo simulation. Laboratory work emphasizes database design, query analysis, network simulation, packet inspection, and computational data analysis using Python or R.
