MSAI 310 Prompt Engineering and Validation

This course provides an in-depth exploration of prompt engineering, the emerging discipline of designing and refining inputs to effectively guide the behavior of generative AI systems. As these systems become increasingly embedded in products, workflows, and decision-making, the ability to communicate effectively with them has become a critical technical and strategic skill. Students will learn how to craft, structure, and optimize prompts for diverse tasks, including text generation, summarization, data extraction, translation, classification, reasoning, and multimodal applications.

In addition, the course covers validation techniques for evaluating prompt effectiveness, consistency, bias, safety, and alignment with intended use. Prerequisite(s): MSAI 300 .
