School of Accounting AI Policy Statement

  1. Use of AI Tools:
    • Students are encouraged to use AI tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and other similar technologies, as supplementary resources for research and learning.
    • AI tools may be utilized in a manner like other electronic research tools such as Checkpoint, Bloomberg Tax, or FASB codification. However, AI should be considered a secondary resource and should not replace primary sources or authoritative guidance.
    • AI-generated content must be critically evaluated using primary sources, with the final work product reflecting such analysis.
    • The student is responsible for all work submitted in the course.
  2. Use of AI in Online Discussion Forums:
    • In online discussion forums, AI tools may be used as a supplementary resource, much like research platforms such as Checkpoint, Bloomberg Tax, and FASB Codification. However, students must ensure that AI-generated content is used responsibly, with original thought and analysis driving the discussion.
  3. Documentation and Citation:
    • When AI tools are used, students must document that they used such tools, the tools used, and what they were used for.
  4. Use of AI in Quizzes and Exams:
    • The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including but not limited to Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and other similar technologies, is strictly prohibited during exams.
    • Students are required to close all AI tools and applications before starting their exams.
    • Faculty may use one of the many aids available to ascertain whether AI has been used by the student when taking a quiz or exam.
    • Any student found using AI tools during a quiz or exam will be subject to disciplinary action consistent with university policies on plagiarism and cheating.
