Program Information
Golden Gate University designed an accelerated graduate program that is dedicated to working professionals residing in China. Using a 7.5-week term format, this program is offered online in Chinese (Mandarin) through our partner, Beacon Education. Note: This program is available only to students who enroll via the Beacon Education platform.
Aligned to GGU’s leadership and service mission, the Global Master of Arts in Psychology (GMAP) is a counseling focused, action-based, language accessible, fast-paced 30-unit accelerated program. The GMAP is focused on providing a rigorous global education in counseling psychology, including an understanding of lifespan development, wellness, cross-cultural issues, differential diagnosis, and a range of therapeutic models, including group, family and couple, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies. Students will also develop a basic understanding of psychological research. Offered in an accelerated delivery, students in this degree take key courses in the discipline of counseling psychology. To be inclusive and accessible to the cross-cultural and inter-cultural marketplace, the curriculum is delivered in online and language accessible format.
Student Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this program will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Demonstrate comprehensive and integrative knowledge of the field of counseling psychology relevant to mental health professionals, including human development, psychopathology, and group, family, couple, and individual dynamics.
- Demonstrate knowledge of ethical and best practice standards that exist for professionals in their field.
- Demonstrate an understanding and capacity for cultural humility.
- Demonstrate an understanding of individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy as practiced from a relational and systemic lens.
- Demonstrate knowledge of research designs and parameters of psychological research, particularly within the field of counseling psychology and the capacity to critically assess psychological research.
Admission Requirements
- Unofficial transcripts from all previously attended institutions (official transcripts will be required after admission).
- Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree.
- Successful completion of 3‐year undergraduate study degree (大专文凭) will be accepted, but applicants are required to provide a resume demonstrating at least three years of work experience.
- 2.5 GPA for full admission.
- If below 2.5 GPA, applicants will be required to provide:
- Resume
- Statement of purpose that will be reviewed by Beacon team, or an interview conducted by Beacon admissions representative to determine the eligibility of the students.
- The statement of purpose or interview must include the following:
- Their professional journey after school (minimum 3 years of work experience).
- How this degree would help them in their professional career.
- The statement of purpose or interview report will be reviewed for approval by GGU Faculty Director/Dean.
Requirements for the Global Master of Arts in Psychology
The degree program requires completion of a total of 30 units. Students must earn a grade of “C-” or better in each course and cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better.
