Program Information
Contemporary Information Technology (IT) managers are organizational leaders who bridge and integrate the worlds of business and IT. They engage business leaders and apply AI, cloud, SaaS, analytics, and management technologies to implement business processes. They possess the skills to succeed in a complex environment. The Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MS ITM) program is designed to develop professionals for top positions in IT management. The degree is aligned with the needs of the modern management-level technology professional using emerging tools to plan, budget, design, deploy, and operate enterprise-level technologies for business sucess The MS ITM curriculum is based on IT concentrations including: emerging systems design, AI software development, utilization of SaaS, Cloud & owned servers, Networks, Data Management, and Security delivered in courses that address integrating emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, cloud native services, server virtualization, Site Reliabilty Engineering, and mobile platforms support. This is a STEM-listed program. Student Learning Outcomes Graduates of the MS in Information Technology Management Program will have the knowledge and skills to: TECHNICAL - Explain current software engineering practices, including AI-driven coding, Minimum Viable Product, and Continous Integration-Deploy.
- Explain Minimum Viable Product, automated testing, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering.
- Demonstrate the Claude Cowork type tool to create IT business systems.
- Explain Data storage strategies using enterprise and cloud storage systems.
- Explain AI infrastructure systems
OPERATIONS - Explain System Operation using NOC, and Service Now-management tools.
- Explain systems support approaches, including Site Reliability Engineering.
- Explain current systems & data security practices,& tools
GOVERNANCE - Explain ethical issues in IT and data management.
- Explain the governance framework of the IT discipline and delivery, identifying foundational and support organizations.
COST - Explain financial planning and budgeting strategies for IT purchasing, development, and operations.
Requirements for the Master of Science in Information Technology Management
Students considered for admission to this program will have a minimum of 30 undergraduate credits in technical courses or three years of substantial work experience in a technical field. A business manager with 4 years of experience and significant interaction with IT will also be considered. The Master of Science in IT Management requires completion of 30 units in the graduate program, including: 21 units of core courses, 6 units of elective courses, and 3 units for the capstone course. The MS ITM curriculum is grounded in the foundational components of information systems: Design, software, infrastructure, networks, data, security, and real-time delivery. The program addresses these foundations from both an emerging-technology and a classic view. Instructors with current field experience at Bay Area’s top companies present courses that address the strategic application of the foundation and emerging technologies, e.g., Artificial Intelligence, unstructured data management, cloud services, system virtualization, CI/CI, SRE, and mobile platforms. This program is a STEM-designated degree program. Graduate Writing Proficiency Requirement Students are expected to possess proficiency in writing to ensure they can be successful in their course of study. Core Advanced Program Courses - 21 units
