LAW - 706W Lawyering: Death Penalty Appeals & Habeas Corpus Petitions 2 unit(s) Students will learn the substantive law of the death penalty in California and the essential skills for both direct appeals and habeas corpus petitions. Students will engage in short assignments that are designed to introduce them to death penalty litigation, including ineffective assistance of counsel claims. Students will become familiar with statutes and rules of court in order to craft successful motions and related documents. This course is open only to first-year JD students.
